Have you been thinking about your new year’s resolution list? Here are some ideas you can pop on your list to look and feel terrific in 2018.

Drink more water

There is nothing better than drinking water to keep your skin plump, hydrated and younger looking. Drinking water is not only great for your skin, it is great for your body. It keeps you energized, it keeps your brain clear of fog, and it helps assist detox and weight loss.

Eat more fresh salads

You really want to aim to eat at least 2-4 cups of fresh salad and vegetables a day. Focus on leafy green vegetables, coloured vegetables full of antioxidants and essential nutrients your skin needs to repair and rejuvenate to keep it looking younger and fresh. Add ¼ a cup berries and 1/4 cup nuts and seeds to your salad to add more nutrients to your diet. One or two pieces of fruit a day is sufficient for a glowing skin.

Stay away from junk and processed food

What exactly is junk food? Junk food is essentially anything that is unhealthy for your body. It’s usually fast and convenient food that does not contain many natural ingredients. Most takeaway food is not healthy because it is loaded with trans fatty acids, salt, sugar and processed or synthetic foods. Trans fatty acids are considered to be the worst type of fat you can eat. Foods that are high in trans fatty acids include doughnuts, biscuits, cakes, pies, cookies, fast fried food such as chips, fried chicken, fried fish. Puff pastries,  frosting, potato chips and margarine are some other examples. Avoid these foods as much as possible to keep your body healthy and your skin more youthful.

Processed food is anything that is not found in nature such as cheese, salami, ham, bacon, packaged breakfast cereals, canned meals. Any food that is not found in the vegetable aisle of the supermarket or the meat aisle is essentially processed. Food sold in delicatessen and in the middle aisles of the supermarket is pretty much all processed. Processed foods are very high in preservatives, colours, salt, sugar, and trans fatty acids.

Get into a good daily skin care routine

While you’re looking after your skin from the inside with fresh healthy nutritious foods and stay on way from junk food and processed foods you can look after your skin from the surface with good quality skin care. Not only is the quality of a skincare important but consistency is the key. Daily skincare will generate greater results than anything else you can do with or to your skin.

  1. Cleanse your skin morning and night to prep your skin for essential skincare treatments
  2. In the morning after cleansing, apply a vitamin C serum to protect your skin from free radical damage
  3. Always apply a sunscreen every morning to protect your skin from UV damage to prevent premature wrinkles, pigmentation, and sunspots
  4. At night after cleansing, use a Retinol serum to rejuvenate and repair your skin
  5. You can apply a night cream over the top of your Retinol serum to nourish and condition your skin as you sleep
  6. Get yourself a good exfoliant and exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to remove dead cell build up to keep your skin looking fresh smooth and radiant.
