Do’s and Don’ts of Caring For Your Lash Extensions
July 27th, 2019
Before you come in to have your eye lash extensions done, make sure your eyelashes and skin are clean. Don’t us eye cream around your eyes on the day of application as the oils in the cream can affect the glue for the eyelash extensions.
The first thing to avoid after getting your lash extensions done is to avoid getting them wet for at least a day to allow the adhesive to dry completely. Make sure you don’t engage in any activity that can cause sweating (like a workout, sauna, sports, etc.). Sweating can affect the results and may cause your newly done extensions to fall out.
Keep your lashes clean to avoid any buildup that may lead to infections or irritation. Clean them using the recommended eye make up remover because it’s gentle and works to clean them effectively without ruining the adhesive.
Don’t use oily products, particularly oil-based makeup remover, around your eyes. Oil can break the bonds of adhesive, causing your extensions to shed earlier. Don’t use micellar water or makeup wipes to remove your eye makeup as these can damage your eyelash extensions.
Use a spoolie to gently brush your eyelashes every few days to prevent clumping, twisting, or bending, and to keep them in their tip-top shape.
Although you won’t need to apply mascara to your lash extensions, still it’s highly recommended that you avoid using waterproof mascara. Waterproof mascaras can damage the adhesive. Waterproof mascara is hard to remove and can cause you to lose your extensions. Also, it can affect your next fill-ins if not removed properly.
Avoid sleeping on your stomach, pressing your face into the pillow will cause damage to the eye lash extensions. You may sleep on your side, just ensure your side of the face is in the edge of the pillow so that your lashes are not squashed into the pillow. This will cause them to twist and break or bend out of shape.
