Microdermabrasion Narellan & Campbelltown
Microdermabrasion is an extremely popular facial rejuvenation treatment . It works by stimulating the production of new skin cells and collagen. It removes the epidermal layers at varying depths in a safe, controlled manner. The treatment is less aggressive than laser resurfacing. This is a non-surgical treatment which only takes 30 to 40 minutes.
How does Microdermabrasion work?
The suction from our machine then pulls the loose dead skin cells away from the face. This helps improve the appearance of the skin giving it a healthy glow due to increased circulation. Once the outer layer of skin has been removed, the layers of skin beneath then increase their production of new skin cells to renew the surface layer.
The epidermis and dermis make up the two main layers of your skin. The epidermis is the layer that protects you from the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing.
The top most layer is called the “stratum corneum”. This mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the small molecules from getting through. When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through this layer, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle lines and blemishes.
All of the action in the treatment takes place at the stratum corneum level. Since it only targets the epidermis (and not the dermis). Affecting deeper layers of skin would be painful and harmful. As this procedure temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of a mask or moisturising creams.
What is Microdermabrasion used for?
It is a very effective facial rejuvenation treatment, ideal for dull, oily/congested skin, enlarged and clogged pores, fine lines and minor scarring. It works for all kinds of skin and there’s no pain or downtime.
This treatment improves many skin conditions and imperfections, to create a healthy, balanced skin surface, such as:
- Aging, sun-damaged skin
- Acne scarring
- Stretch marks
- Enlarged Pores and Blemishes
- Age/sun spots
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Skin rejuvenation
Who benefits from Facial Rejuvenation?
This treatment is effective for all skin types except sensitive/reactive skin types. It is a mild treatment causing minimal damage to the surface of the skin. Results are subtle and include brightening of the skins appearance and improvement in the texture of the skin, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles.
Some stretch marks respond well to this treatment and some people can experience a reduction in the appearance of brown age spots on their skin. This treatment is not suitable for deeper wrinkles and scars, deep hyperpigmentation problems (areas of darker pigment) or broken veins in the skin.
Potential side effects of Microdermabrasion
The treatment is usually painless and doesn’t irritate the skin greatly. All patients will experience some tightness and redness of the skin, which may last for an hour or two following treatment. On occasions, redness or streaking of the skin may occur which dissipates in 24-48hrs
Maintaining level cellular growth on the surface aids in the youthfulness of the skin’s appearance. On average, we renew our skin surface every 10 days. However, with age, poor health, or lack of care, cell renewal may be considerably slower.
How often should this be performed?
Once every 7-14 days for the first 4-5 treatments, from there a maintenance schedule of once every 4-6 weeks is usually recommended.
Microdermabrasion also works well in combination with Fractional RF for collagen and elastin production.
